LNG Tanks, Yamal Russia
The Yamal LNG project is based in the estuary of the Ob River in Northern Russia which is ice-locked for nine months of the year.
Independently tested at -168°C to the requirements of EN 14620-3, the Ancon CTT range of couplers were the ideal solution for the construction of the steel-lined concrete storage tanks for refrigerated liquefied gas (LNG/LPG).
The tanks have a capacity of 160,000 cubic metres and comprise a stainless steel interior container and a pre-stressed concrete external container; the latter component features over 16,000 Ancon tapered thread cryogenic rebar couplers to suit 25mm and 32mm diameter Krybar®.
Featuring a tapered-thread to simplify bar alignment and engagement, and reduce the chances of cross threading, CTT Couplers are compact in design, so are ideal for use where space is tight, and can be installed quickly and easily, which kept the construction time and costs of the project to a minimum.
Lapped joints are not always an appropriate means of connecting rebar.
